Timber project

Timber

Zemun has a timber processing facility where large logs of Chamfuta wood are sawed into planks and then dried. There are 20 local people that are employed at the Zemun timber yard who have been trained to operate the machinery and produce wood that is of international quality. Once the wood is sufficiently dried it is used for the construction of the timber houses and other structures that form part of the Zemun housing project. Chamfuta wood is a hard wood and is ideal for use in house construction, especially in area's of high humidity like Pemba.

All the timber that is processed in the Zemun Timber yard has been purchased in accordance with Mozambiquan authority and has no impact on the environment from which it was cut.

Forming part of the timber yard is a brick producing facility where Up to 1000 heavy dutey bricks can be produced a day. These bricks will be used in the housing project and supplied to local stores in Pemba for resale. The remaining bricks will be donated to the neighboring villages as part of Zemuns social responsibility program.
